IT Infrastructure Engineer

Bloom Recruitment is in search of an experienced IT Infrastructure Engineer to join our client's infrastructure team in Vancouver immediately.

Our client is a national MSP that has been in business for over 30 years, and one Bloom has partnered with for more than six. They are in a major growth phase under a new CEO with a track record of building a national IT services business, and a clear focus on Canadian sovereign data centres and technology services for the mid-market. They are growing both organically and through acquisitions to get there.

In this role you will own architecture and migration projects across highly diverse client infrastructure, from on-prem environments (Proxmox and Hyper-V, server clusters, enterprise storage) to multi-cloud workspaces across Entra ID and Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and Nextcloud. The infrastructure team is a tight knit group of seven: highly talented, driven, and good company. Most of the people Bloom has placed here have stayed, and many have moved up through the ranks. The team is adding one more.

Responsibilities

Project Delivery

  • Lead and execute projects across IP networks, physical and clustered servers, and storage solutions including NAS, SAN and SDS arrays.
  • Deliver projects across cloud workspaces such as Entra ID and Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and Nextcloud.
  • Build and maintain thorough topology diagrams, KB articles, SOPs, runbooks, FAQs and quick reference guides for both internal support teams and client handoffs.

Sales Engineering

  • Collaborate with Account Managers, outside vendors and clients to gather requirements.
  • Author technical documentation including Statements of Work (SOWs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), labour estimates, Managed Service Agreements (MSAs) and implementation roadmaps.

Operations, Maintenance and Escalations

  • Perform routine patching, maintenance, and rigorous testing of backup and disaster recovery systems.
  • Participate in, and occasionally lead, root cause analysis, emergency remediation and post-incident reviews during service disruptions.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation as an escalation point, including occasional after-hours maintenance.
  • Travel to local data centres and client sites when hands-on work is required.

Requirements

  • 5+ years administering Windows Server environments, including Active Directory.
  • 2+ years administering Linux and/or BSD operating systems.
  • Strong virtualization experience (Proxmox and Hyper-V preferred), including hypervisor migrations and conversions between virtual and bare metal.
  • Deep fundamentals of IP networking and cybersecurity principles.
  • Hands-on experience with identity providers, mobile device management (MDM), monitoring and RMM tools, and backup and disaster recovery tools.
  • Exceptional time management and prioritization, a drive to understand underlying principles rather than just checking off steps, and the ability to follow standardized engineering processes while adapting to unique client environments.
  • Clear written and verbal English communication, with the ability to translate complex concepts between technical peers and client stakeholders.
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver's licence, a reliable personal vehicle and a clean driver's abstract for data centre and client site visits.
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs, work from ladders and work in tight spaces such as server rooms and network closets, with accommodation where required.

  • Experience with VDI or RDS environments.

Key details

  • Location: Vancouver, BC.
  • Work Model: Hybrid. Full time in office during the probationary training period, then two days per week in office, plus client site and data centre visits as needed.
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific, with flexibility once training is complete. Occasional planned after-hours maintenance and an on-call rotation.
  • Compensation: $80,000 to $85,000 base salary.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package and three weeks of paid time off to start.
  • Team: Infrastructure team of seven, reporting to the Director of Technology.
  • Vehicle: Required. Valid BC Class 5 licence, reliable vehicle and clean driver's abstract.
